Prescriptions

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS

WE DO NOT ACCEPT PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS OVER THE PHONE

As prescription ordering is now available via the NHS app, via Patient Access and via PATCHS, we will no longer accept prescription requests via our practice email account.

The NHS app & Patient Access app allow patients to see the status of their order and any notes patients may need to add, can but input within the request on the NHS app.

Patients may still order their repeat medication by ticking the items required and putting their repeat slip into the box outside the pharmacy as normal if preferred.

Please be advised that we are unable to accept requests where the medication required has not been named, we are unable to accept requests such as ‘all medication’ as this can lead to errors and delays.

Your pharmacy can provide a list of your repeat medication.

This change will come into effect on Monday 09.10.23

After this date we will no longer accept email requests.

The safest way to request is by Patient Access, The NHS App or PATCHS. Some chemists offer free home delivery service by an agreement with the patient.

If you have a query about medication, please contact your pharmacy.

Repeat prescriptions

Prescriptions ordered before 12:30 will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy by 2PM the following working day, any prescription ordered after 12:30 pm will be ready to collect 2 working days later, after 2pm.

Please ensure that you leave your nominated pharmacy enough time to prepare your medication. You will need to check with them when your medication will be ready for collection.

How to nominate a pharmacy

When you order a prescription online, you can have your prescription sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.

Once you nominate a pharmacy:

  • you will no longer need to collect paper prescriptions from your GP surgery
  • your nominated pharmacy will receive your prescriptions until you change or remove your nomination
  • any outstanding prescriptions you have ordered may still arrive at your current nominated pharmacy

You can nominate a high street pharmacy by using the NHS App or logging into the NHS website using a web browser. A high street pharmacy is where you collect your medicines in person. They may also deliver to your home.

Online-only pharmacies send your medicines in the post. To nominate an online-only pharmacy, you must register with the pharmacy through their website or contact them. It’s not possible to nominate an online-only pharmacy in your NHS App.

View a list of online-only pharmacies

1. Log in using the NHS App or website.

2. Go to Prescriptions.

3. If you already have a nominated pharmacy, you’ll see their name under Your nominated pharmacy. If not, you’ll see the message “Choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to”.

If you change your nominated pharmacy, any outstanding prescriptions you have ordered may still arrive at your current nominated pharmacy.

1. Log in using the NHS App or website.

2. Go to Prescriptions.

You may not be able to view or change your nominated pharmacy if:

Your prescription is dispensed by your GP surgery (your GP surgery gives you your medicines)

You have more than one nominated pharmacy, for example, if you get your prescription items from two different medicine or medical equipment providers

If you have a nominated pharmacy, contact them to find out when your medicine will be ready and where to collect it.

To nominate an online-only pharmacy, you must register with the pharmacy through their website or contact them.

After you nominate an online-only pharmacy, your prescriptions will be sent to them. Once the pharmacy has checked and prepared your prescriptions, they will send them to you in the post.
